Preface
This volume contains abstracts of the invited and contributed papers presented
at the workshop ``Active Learning, Database Sampling,
Experimental Design: Views on Instance Selection'' held on 4 September 2001 at
the European Conference on Machine Learning and the European Conference on
Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases in Freiburg,
Germany.
The workshop aimed at bringing together researchers from the communities of
machine learning, data mining, and statistics who are, each with their own
perspective, addressing a common problem which can be referred to as
instance selection.
We would like to thank the members of the Program Committee who reviewed the
submitted papers.
- David Cohn, Carnegie Mellon University
- Carlos Domingo, Synera Systems
