Registration Information

The conference fee is 700 DM if you register before August 8, 2001 and 1000 DM afterwards.* The registration fee includes access to all talks, workshops and tutorials, coffee breaks, the social program on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, as well as copies of the proceedings of both ECML 2001 and PKDD 2001, which will be published as two volumes within the Lecture Notes of Artificial Intelligence series of Springer-Verlag. Workshop and tutorial participants are required to register for the full conference.

Workshops and Tutorials

Access to the workshops and tutorials is free for registered participants. However, tutorial and workshop notes are not included in the registration fee. They can be bought at the price of 25 DM a copy. However, the organizers expect that most of the workshop notes and tutorial materials will be made available on the web before the conference.

Social Program

On Monday, an informal welcome drink will be offered at a German "Biergarten" to registered participants. On Tuesday night, the city of Freiburg will offer the official welcome reception at the "Historisches Kaufhaus". The banquet takes place on Wednesday night at the Schloss Munzingen outside of Freiburg. Tickets for the banquet are available at the special price of 50 DM. Thursday night will feature the first "European Concert by Data Mining and Machine Learning Scientists" (see also the "call for musical contributions" on the webpage). This special event takes place at the Irish pub O'Dwyers in the heart of Freiburg. Entrance tickets (including some drinks) are included in the registration fee. Friday is the night of the guided Ghost Tour (through the Old Cemetery and other places of interest http://www.historix-tours.de). A limited number of tickets is available at the price of 10 DM. Finally, for Saturday night we have reserved a limited number of tickets for the concert of the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) conducted by Sir Simon Rattle (Beethoven, Symphony No.2, Op. 36, D Major and Symphony No. 5, Op. 67, c minor.) Tickets are available for the categories of 175 DM, 225 DM and 275 DM.

Accompanying Persons

Accompanying persons can participate in the social program on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the price of 150 DM.

Hotel Reservations

Hotel reservations should be made through Tourismus Service GmbH in Freiburg. Please fill out the hotel reservation form and fax it to +49 761 88 581-49.

Please note that it is possible to specify the top 3 preferred hotels on page 2 of the form. Information about the hotels (including price and distance from the train station, which is close to the conference location) can be found at http://www.baden24.de.

Should you need technical assistance, please call our hotline under +49-761-88581-45 or send an e-mail to buchungsservice@tourismus-service.com. September is one of the busiest months in Freiburg. Therefore participants are suggested to book their hotels as soon as possible and in any case before August 1, 2001. After that date, we cannot guarantee accommodation.

*Students needing financial support may apply for a reduced registration fee by sending a motivated request to ecmlpkdd@informatik.uni-freiburg.de before July 15, 2001. Due to financial constraints the amount of the reduction as well as the number of reduced registration fees is limited. Preference will be given to students presenting a paper at the conference, and requests will be treated on a first come first serve basis.
